"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God will all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: "Love your neighbor as yourself.'" -Matthew 22:36-39
At Calvary Church we: Reach UP, Reach IN, Reach OUT.
Reaching UP is a vertical reach to touch God. We reach up through worship.
Reaching IN is a horizontal reach to bless others. We reach in through serving and giving within the community of Calvary Church. We serve God by serving each other.
Reaching OUT is the outward reach. Reaching out is the only way that we can change the world. We have to be bold and courageous. Jesus commanded us to go into the entire world and present the good news of Jesus.
J. Don George has served many years as both pastor and evangelist. After traveling as an evangelist for seven years, he held pastorates in Plainview, Texas and Fort Worth, Texas, before becoming Senior Pastor of Calvary Church in Irving, Texas, in 1972.
J. Don George is a graduate of Wayland Baptist University. He has done additional studies at Louisiana State University and the University of Texas at Arlington. He also holds the Doctor of Divinity degree from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Pastor George has traveled often to foreign countries for Evangelistic Outreach Crusades. He has conducted crusades in Europe, Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America.
Under Pastor George's leadership, the membership of Calvary Church has increased from 60 to more than 7,000.
In 1957, Pastor George was married to Gwen Rogers of Abilene, Texas. Their three children are Valerie, Roger and Rodney. J. Don and Gwen have six grandchildren.
Pastor George is a member of the Irving Chamber of Commerce, the Irving Las Colinas Rotary Club and the Irving Ministerial Association. He is past President of the Irving Ministerial Association, the Greater Dallas Assemblies of God Pastor's Association and the Irving Las Colinas Rotary Club.
